Catheter-Related Blood Stream Infections
Central venous catheters (CVCs) are life-saving vascular access ports in patients requiring long-term intravenous therapy. However, of the approximately 7 million CVCs used annually about 500,000 or 7% become infected leading to serious, life threatening infections known as catheter-related blood stream infections (CRBSIs).
Hemorrhoids are a common gastrointestinal disorder characterized by pain, swelling, itching, tenderness, and bleeding. In the United States, hemorrhoids affect nearly 5% of the population, with approximately 10 million persons annually reporting symptoms of hemorrhoidal disease. Of these patients, approximately one-third visit a physician for evaluation and treatment.
